Faro De Punta De Malabrigo

There is something about old lighthouses - their history, the architecture, their locations and noble purposes. There is something you feel when you are in the premises and walking the grounds imaging the others from the past who walked the same paths and corridors, who lived and worked in them, from the time they were built throught the years to the present. You can just picture storms and stories of pirates and ghosts. Of the technology both old and new, specially the old which must have been cutting-edge in the 1700 and 1800's and still functional and the basis for todays unmanned, self-sustained and solar-powerd lighthouses.

I have been to a couple of lighthouses and a recent one I visited was in Lobo, Batangas. It is called the Faro De Punta De Malabrigo and simply known as the Malabrigo. Like most other lighthouse it is located on a high point of land by a cliff straight down to the rocky beach of Lobo. As with other lighthouses, it is remotely located and has a spectacular view. The Malabrigo lighthouse services the Verde Island passage.

On this trip with me was my son, Inaki.

Inaki, my navigator.
